The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced the cancellation of trade licenses for all rooftop restaurants and establishments operating in buildings not originally designed for restaurant use, citing serious safety concerns.
The decision was outlined in a public notice issued on Monday, April 28.
According to the notice, many residential and commercial buildings under DSCC’s jurisdiction operate restaurants without RAJUK-approved designs, often illegally setting up on rooftops. These unauthorized operations pose significant risks to public safety, as previous incidents have resulted in property damage and loss of life. The notice also pointed out that several businesses had obtained trade licenses through unethical means.
To protect lives and property, the DSCC has immediately revoked the trade licenses of all rooftop and non-compliant restaurants. It further warned that legal action will be taken against any establishment continuing to operate without a valid license.
