A University of Michigan study reveals that consuming ultra-processed foods can shorten lifespan. Items like hot dogs, Coke, and breakfast sandwiches reduce life expectancy, with a hot dog taking off 36 minutes and a Coke 12 minutes. Conversely, healthier foods, such as certain types of fish, can add time to life, with some fish increasing lifespan by 28 minutes. Dr. Olivier Jolliet, who led the study, emphasized the importance of small dietary changes for better health. Previous research also linked ultra-processed foods to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, mental health issues, and diabetes. While these foods can be enjoyed in moderation, doctors advise prioritizing fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for improved long-term health.
