To address the worsening air pollution in Dhaka, at least 50 air purifiers will soon be installed across public areas, as announced by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz. Each of these purifiers has the capacity to clean the air equivalent to around 100 trees. The initiative is being financed by private sponsors, meaning the city corporation will not bear any costs. In addition to setting up air purifiers, DNCC has plans to gradually remove outdated vehicles from the roads, encourage the use of lithium-battery-powered rickshaws to minimize environmental damage, and introduce stricter controls on rickshaw licensing to prevent dominance by syndicates. These steps were discussed during a policy dialogue jointly organized with the Centre for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS), where broader plans for reducing pollution and promoting sustainable urban management were also highlighted.
