Dhaka’s air quality has seen a notable improvement following several days of continuous rainfall. Initially, the rain helped maintain the city's air quality at a moderate or tolerable level. However, the showers that began early on Thursday (May 29) have further improved the situation, elevating Dhaka’s air quality into the “good” category. At 11:00 AM today, Dhaka recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 39, which falls within the “good” range, as reported by IQAir.
IQAir is a Switzerland-based organization that provides real-time data on air pollution levels in cities around the world. According to their latest update this morning, Dhaka—typically ranked among the most polluted cities globally—surpassed several well-known major cities in terms of air quality. These cities include Lisbon in Portugal and Tokyo in Japan, both with AQI scores of 50; Montreal in Canada with 49; Helsinki in Finland and Rome in Italy, both with 47; Salt Lake City in the United States also with 47; Los Angeles, USA with 43; and Rotterdam in the Netherlands with 46.
