The pilot program for three-wheeled, battery-powered e-rickshaws designed by the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has been inaugurated. The launch took place on Saturday through separate events in Aftabnagar under Dhaka North City Corporation and Jigatala under Dhaka South City Corporation.
Speaking at the event, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan said that for e-rickshaws to operate in Dhaka, their design, structure, braking system, and battery safety must be scientifically tested, which is being assessed through this pilot. Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Faozul Kabir Khan said the initiative aims to ensure discipline and road safety and will soon be expanded across Dhaka.
