Farida Khanam has been appointed as Dhaka’s first female Deputy Commissioner through a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday (April 22). Currently serving as a Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, she replaces Md.
Rezaul Karim, who has been transferred to the Cabinet Division.
A member of the 25th BCS (Administration) cadre, Khanam joined government service in 2006 and has worked in districts including Rangpur, Narayanganj, and Noakhali. She has also served as a UNO and held roles in the Department of Women Affairs and the Department of Land Records and Surveys.
Born in Gopalganj Sadar, she studied under the Dhaka Education Board and later earned Honors and Master’s degrees in Political Science from University of Dhaka. Her appointment marks the first time a woman will lead Dhaka’s district administration.
