The name for the new university formed by seven government colleges in the capital has been officially decided. The new university will operate under the name 'Dhaka Central University.' This decision was reached today, Sunday (16), during a meeting held at the University Grants Commission (UGC) with a 32-member student representative team present.
Previously, there were differing opinions among the student representatives about what the name of the new university should be. Out of the representatives, seventeen students supported the name Dhaka Central University. However, the remaining students opposed this name, pointing out that Dhaka College was previously known as Dhaka Central College. They instead advocated for the name Federal University. The UGC, in response to this disagreement, asked the student representatives to conduct internal discussions and come to a unified decision. After further discussions, the student representatives were able to reach a consensus in favor of the name Dhaka Central University.
