Despite falling ill himself, Dr Irfan Mahmud, who was on emergency duty at Bhola 250-bed General Hospital, continued treating patients instead of leaving his post. He suddenly became ill around midnight on Friday and was admitted for treatment, receiving injections and saline. However, with patients still waiting, he returned to his chair with a cannula attached and continued providing care while receiving saline. The incident highlighted the hospital’s ongoing shortage of doctors, with staff often working shifts lasting up to 18 hours.
