Students from Government Titumir College are protesting, demanding the institution's upgrade to a "full-fledged university." The protests have centered around the upscale areas of Dhaka, such as Gulshan and Banani, with students chanting slogans like: "Gulshan Chai Ki, Titumir Varsity; Banani Chai Ki, Titumir Varsity." The slogans have also been echoed in English: "Demand to Gulshan, Titumir University!" and "Demand to Banani, Titumir University!" The protest began at 11 AM on Tuesday (November 19) in front of the college's main gate, with students expressing their demands through various slogans that have energized the campus. Other popular slogans include: "No room for discrimination in Titumir's land," "TC or TU? TU! TU!" "Principal or VC? VC! VC!" "Our campus, our rules," and "Why is there police on campus? We demand answers!" Around 11:45 AM, student leader Matiur Rahman Joy, one of the protest coordinators, addressed the crowd. He shared that senior government officials, including the education advisor, are expected to meet with the students later in the day to discuss their demands. A student delegation will attend the meeting, but Joy cautioned that if their demands are not met with clear commitments, the students would intensify their protests by blocking roads and railways starting at 11 AM on Wednesday.
