Palestinian activist Osama Qashoo has introduced a new beverage, Gaza Cola, in London’s Holborn district, positioning it as an alternative to mainstream cola brands. Launched in November 2023, the drink is served at Hiba Express, a Palestinian and Lebanese restaurant. Its packaging is adorned with Palestinian flag colors and traditional Arabic designs. Qashoo, a co-founder of the International Solidarity Movement (2001) and the Free Gaza Movement (2007), created Gaza Cola as part of a larger boycott campaign. "The primary goal was to boycott companies that support and fuel the Israeli army and contribute to the genocide in Gaza," Qashoo explained. Consumer feedback has been positive, with Nynke Brett noting, "It's less fizzy than Coke, smoother, and easier on the palate." The initiative aligns with rising consumer activism in regions like the Middle East and North Africa, where GlobalData analyst George Shaw states that 53 percent of consumers are boycotting certain brands due to recent conflicts. Described by Qashoo as having "a sweet and acidic taste similar to Coca-Cola," Gaza Cola is marketed as "the real taste of freedom" and aims to support Palestine through "trade, not aid."
