A new student organization, the Democratic Student Parliament, has been formed by former coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Abu Bakar Mazumder has been appointed as the central convener, while Zahid Ahsan will serve as the member secretary of the central committee.
The organization was officially announced on Wednesday (February 26) at a press conference held at Madhur Canteen, Dhaka University. However, the declaration sparked protests, leading to counter-slogans and clashes between two groups.
The press conference was scheduled for 3 PM, where former coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement gathered. At the same time, a group of private university students protested, demanding greater representation in the central committee.
By 4 PM, a physical altercation erupted in front of Madhur Canteen between the two sides. Eventually, the leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement moved inside the canteen, where they announced the new student organization and its leadership. They then marched toward Mall Chattar, where another round of clashes occurred as protesting students claimed they were denied positions. Several students were reportedly injured, though their identities were not immediately confirmed. Additional clashes broke out later in the evening.
