Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus expressed on Tuesday that the people of Bangladesh, particularly the families of the army officers martyred in the 2009 Pilkhana massacre, have been left in the dark for far too long.
“The families of the martyrs have been waiting for justice for their loved ones. Following the brutal murders of our brave army officers at Pilkhana, the nation has been kept in the dark for far too long,” he said in a statement released by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Tuesday, marking National Martyred Army Day.
The statement continued: “On this solemn day, I remember with deep sorrow and offer my heartfelt tribute to the martyrs—those army officers who gave their lives. I pray for the peace of their souls and extend my sincere condolences to their grieving families.”
He stressed that the government is working tirelessly to ensure justice for the Pilkhana massacre.
“With empathy, I remain hopeful that the nation and its people will continue to stand by the families of the martyrs and all those who have suffered injustice,” he added.
Dr. Yunus concluded: “From now on, this day will serve as a lasting reminder of the untimely and brutal deaths of a group of courageous individuals who sacrificed their lives for the country. As a nation, we must commit to honoring their sacrifices and resolving to walk the righteous path. No more lives should be lost to misrule, conspiracy, and arrogance. People should have the opportunity to reach their rightful place with dignity, based on their abilities and talents.”
