BNP Standing Committee Member Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed criticized Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for visiting the United Nations with 104 members, calling it an inappropriate “picnic.” He made the remark while speaking to journalists on Monday (September 29) morning.
Hafiz Uddin added that, based on advice from some European and American intellectuals, no single political party can impose an electoral system on the country. He said Jamaat believes it is reclaiming its place in history and seeks election through proportional representation (PR). He expressed embarrassment over statements by some of their leaders, noting that Jamaat fears the people’s verdict. While they can include PR in their manifesto, BNP will not accept any system imposed on the public.
He also claimed that “the old game” has resumed in the hills, explaining that Ziaur Rahman’s settlement of Bengalis in the area has now balanced the population ratio, making it impossible for them to declare independence in favor of India.
