During the ongoing SSC examination in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali, a ceiling fan suddenly fell on a student’s head inside an exam hall, causing panic among candidates.
The incident took place on Sunday (April 26) around 11:30 AM in room number 11 of the Chowmuhani Madan Mohan High School center. The injured student was identified as Md. Niamul Hasan, an SSC examinee from Durgapur High School (Roll No. 192267).
Eyewitnesses reported that the ceiling fan suddenly detached during the exam and fell directly onto the student. The impact of the fan blades caused a cut on one side of his head, resulting in bleeding. The incident created panic among other examinees and temporarily disrupted the examination.
Upon receiving the news, the Begumganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) took immediate action. A medical team from the Upazila Health Complex was quickly sent to the scene and provided first aid to the injured student. After treatment, he was allowed to rejoin the examination, and an additional 30 minutes was granted to compensate for the lost time.
Residents have alleged that several exam rooms still contain old and unsafe ceiling fans, which led to the accident. They have demanded urgent renovation of infrastructure and electrical equipment in educational institutions.
Upazila Education Officer Zahirul Islam confirmed that the incident of the falling fan during the exam is true. He added that the student received prompt medical care and was allowed to continue the exam. Representatives from the Cumilla Education Board also visited the site, observed the situation, and instructed the necessary measures to be taken.
