Cat Becomes Official Stationmaster at Japan’s Kishi Station

In a delightful mix of tradition and charm, a cat named Yonatama has officially taken on the role of stationmaster at Kishi Station in western Japan. Wearing a stationmaster’s hat and medal, Yonatama’s appointment was celebrated with a formal ceremony attended by fans, photographers, and local officials. Traditionally held by humans, the stationmaster role at Kishi continues as a cherished local custom. The ceremony was led by Mitsunobu Kojima, president of Wakayama Electric Railway, who placed the medal around Yonatama’s neck.
