Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus met with European Union diplomats today at his Tejgaon office, where he proposed relocating the EU visa centers from New Delhi to Dhaka or a nearby country. The meeting was attended by a 19-member EU delegation, led by Michael Miller, the EU Ambassador to Bangladesh. Prof. Yunus expressed concern that the restriction on visas for Bangladeshis by India is preventing many students from traveling to Delhi to obtain European visas, creating uncertainty about their education. He suggested that relocating the visa centers to Dhaka or a neighboring country would benefit both Bangladesh and the EU. Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain pointed out that Bulgaria has already moved its visa center for Bangladeshis to Indonesia and Vietnam. Prof. Yunus also discussed ongoing election reforms during the meeting, stressing that certain reforms need to be completed before the elections. He informed the diplomats that 15 different commissions are currently working on these reforms, with reports expected between late December and mid-January. The meeting was attended by several EU ambassadors, including those from Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
