Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday warned that Bangladesh has gained a notorious reputation as a “world champion in fraud,” pointing to widespread document forgery that has harmed the country’s international credibility.
“Everything is fake. Passports, visas—many countries don’t even recognize them. You may have seen headlines calling it the ‘American base of fakes.’ We have built a factory of fraud,” Yunus said.
He made these remarks while inaugurating the four-day Digital Device and Innovation Expo 2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.
