For the second consecutive day on Wednesday, BUET students, joined by peers from various private engineering universities, staged a blockade at Shahbagh to press their three-point demand. In a symbolic move, they referred to diploma engineers as “Dibba” and challenged them to solve the integration of √tan x, questioning their academic competence for higher-level posts.
The protesters demanded competitive exams for all entry-level engineering jobs, an end to the 100% quota for diploma holders in technical positions, and legal measures against the misuse of the “engineer” title. Their unusual challenge quickly ignited debate across campuses and social media.
