The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has lifted the restriction on 40 mobile internet package offers, allowing operators to introduce more flexible plans, including hourly options. Customers can now carry forward unused data by renewing the same package before it expires. This decision, announced on Sunday, reverses the 15-month limit of three package types—7 days, 30 days, or unlimited.
Under the revised guidelines, operators can offer three categories of packages: standard packages available to all, personalized packages tailored to user behavior and revenue, and R&D packages for market testing. The minimum validity period is set at 15 days for standard packages, 3 days for personalized ones, and 7 days for R&D packages. Shorter packages of 1 to 3 days are also permitted, with data limits of 200MB per hour, 3GB for one day, 5GB for two days, and 8GB for three days.
Operators must inform users via SMS a day before their package expires. Additionally, flexible and time-restricted unlimited plans will be introduced. However, hourly or minute-based packages will not be allowed between midnight and 6 a.m. The new directive aims to offer customers more choice and the ability to save unused data for future use.
