Tensions flared at the Kiranganj border in Chapainawabganj due to the cutting of mango trees. Locals claimed that BSF personnel and Indian border residents entered Bangladeshi territory and felled the trees. When BGB personnel and locals attempted to intervene, BSF reportedly responded with tear gas shells and explosives, leaving at least five Bangladeshi farmers injured.
Following resistance from BGB and locals, BSF personnel and Indian citizens withdrew. The border remains tense, with additional BGB forces deployed to manage the situation. Lt. Colonel Golam Kibria, Commander of the Mahananda 59 BGB Battalion, stated, “Efforts are underway to bring the situation under control. Further details will be shared later.”
Previously, similar incidents occurred at this border due to disputes over constructing barbed wire fencing in the no-man's-land. Currently, residents from both sides have gathered near the border, while BGB is actively working to ease the tension.
