British journalist Robert Carter, who once adhered to far-right ideologies and was influenced by Islamophobia, is now a confident and devout Muslim. Recently, he shared the story of this profound transformation, describing his conversion to Islam as a “life-saving experience.”
In a video message on the Islamic page 5 Pillars, Carter reflected on his past, recalling his teenage years as troubled and emotionally fragile. Growing up in a broken family without proper guidance or role models, he experienced deep confusion.
He explains that at the age of 14 or 15, he was drawn to far-right beliefs and so-called British values, though their true meaning was unclear to him at the time.
The journalist also pointed to ongoing social and cultural crises in Western society, noting that confusing ideologies have permeated even school education, leaving people uncertain about their identity, including gender.
Carter’s life took a turn the day he first held the Holy Qur’an. According to him, that moment changed the course of his life. He began to discover the true beauty of Islam hidden beneath layers of propaganda and hatred. At the same time, he criticized contemporary political culture and many media outlets for promoting toxic Islamophobic narratives and conspiracy theories that distance people from the truth.
He describes his conversion as the real beginning of his life. Speaking with emotion, he says that the day he recited the Shahada, he felt as if he had been born anew—a belief that has since guided him toward a bright future.
By leaving behind misconceptions, hatred, and confusion, Carter’s story resonates deeply with audiences, highlighting the transformative power of the Qur’an and spiritual awakening.
