The traditional sweet 'Chhanamukhi' from Brahmanbaria has officially received Geographical Indication (GI) status, as confirmed by the Department of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (DPDT). This dessert, with a history spanning over a century, is made from cow’s milk curds and is celebrated for its distinct flavor and texture, produced exclusively in Brahmanbaria. The GI recognition underscores the sweet's cultural importance and the unique production methods tied to the region's geography. According to district administration sources, the DPDT confirmed on September 24 that Brahmanbaria's Chhanamukhi is now officially registered as a GI product, bearing the GI number 41. Md. Saiful Islam, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) of Brahmanbaria, remarked, "Chhanamukhi has gained GI recognition and is now an official symbol of Brahmanbaria. It is featured in the district’s brand book, and is regularly served to foreign dignitaries, including ministers."
