The Election Commission’s Inquiry and Judicial Committee has issued a show-cause notice to Jamaat candidate Principal Shahabuddin of Bogura-1 for allegedly using the title “Muktijoddha” (freedom fighter) in front of his name during election campaigning, despite not being a freedom fighter.
The notice was issued on Monday (February 2) for the Bogura-1 constituency, which includes Sariakandi and Sonatala.
The committee said that following a written complaint by Kazi Erfanur Rahman, the chief agent of the Dhanner Sheesh symbol, an on-site investigation revealed that Shahabuddin has been using the “Muktijoddha” title in his campaign for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.
The notice cites this as a violation of Clause 13/16 of the 2026 Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates in National Parliament Elections, which prohibits such misleading claims.
Shahabuddin has been asked to provide a written explanation as to why legal action should not be taken against him. The notice warns that failure to submit a statement by the specified date at the Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee office in Bogura District and Sessions Judge Court will result in action according to the law.
