A Dhaka election tribunal has declared BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation. The decision came after Ishraque challenged the 2020 mayoral election results, claiming it was fraudulent. Ishraque had contested the February 1, 2020, election but was defeated, with Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh declared the winner. Last year, the government removed the mayors of 12 city corporations, including Taposh and Atiqul Islam. The tribunal annulled the 2020 election, declaring it void. Ishraque expressed satisfaction with the ruling after attending the court session.
