In a recent ruling, the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) election was declared invalid, and Dr. Shahadat Hossain, the mayoral candidate from the BNP, was officially appointed as mayor by the court. Judge Mohammad Khairul Amin of the Chittagong First Joint District Judge and Election Tribunal issued this decision on October 1. The court also ordered that a gazette confirming this appointment be published within ten days. Dr. Shahadat Hossain had filed a lawsuit against nine individuals, including the election commissioner, alleging electoral irregularities and seeking to annul the CCC election results. This lawsuit, lodged on February 24, 2021, included prominent figures such as former CCC Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and the Chief Election Commissioner, none of whom had legal representation during the proceedings.
