Sarwar Jamal Nizam, the BNP-nominated candidate for Chattogram-13 (Anowara-Karnaphuli), publicly urged extortionists to halt their activities until February 12.
He made the request on Friday night (February 6) while inaugurating an election office in Chatori, Anowara. A 46-second video of his remarks has circulated widely on social media, sparking discussion in local political circles.
In the video, Sarwar Jamal Nizam highlights Chatori police station as a key economic area, with local business and people’s incomes heavily dependent on its economic activities. He criticized ongoing extortion, lawlessness, and violence in the area.
He is heard urging, with hands folded, that extortion must stop until the 12th. He also warned that anyone attempting to tarnish the BNP’s reputation would not be spared.
Multiple attempts to reach Sarwar Jamal Nizam for comment were unsuccessful.
When asked, Chattogram South BNP convener Idris Mia told Jago News that the candidate could speak on the matter directly, adding that he had not seen the video and was busy with continuous campaigning.
