At least 25 individuals were injured in a clash between supporters of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami over the election of a school managing committee chairperson in Mirpur, Kushtia. The incident took place around 5 PM on Sunday (January 12) at Miton Burapara Secondary School field in Amla Union.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mominul Islam of Mirpur Police Station confirmed that the clash originated from a dispute between local Jamaat Amir Moklesur Rahman Mukul and BNP leader Rashed Mahmud Nasir regarding the election. Of the injured, 12 were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital and 6 to Mirpur Upazila Health Complex. OC Islam assured that the situation is now under control, with additional police deployed in the area to prevent further unrest.
Professor Suja Uddin Joardder, Secretary of the Kushtia district branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, stated, "Jamaat was unexpectedly attacked over the school managing committee election. Many of our leaders and activists were injured, some critically, and have been admitted to Mirpur and Kushtia hospitals."
