Md. Azad Jahan, the Deputy Commissioner of Bhola, has taken responsibility for the newborn child of Shahjahan, who was killed during the mass uprising of students and citizens in July-August. On Saturday (December 28), he visited the newborn at a private clinic in Bhola town and vowed to act as the child's guardian. Reports state that Shahjahan, a resident of Chhoto Dhali village in Syedpur Union, Daulatkhan Upazila, Bhola, had been a mat seller in Dhaka. On July 18, he was shot and killed during the anti-discrimination student movement at Dhaka University campus. At the time, his wife, Fatema Begum, was four months pregnant. On Friday (December 27), Fatema gave birth to a baby boy through cesarean section at Asia Doctors Point in Bhola. The baby has been named Omar Faruk. While Fatema smiled after the birth of her son, she was overcome with emotion when talking about her late husband, expressing her hope to raise her son with his father's values. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Md. Azad Jahan, accompanied by coordinators of the anti-discrimination movement, visited the clinic to meet the newborn. He greeted the mother with flowers, offered gifts, and provided financial assistance. Speaking to the press, he said, "In the anti-discrimination movement, 46 people from Bhola were martyred, including Shahjahan. From the start, we have supported Shahjahan's ailing wife with financial aid from the district administration. Now, we are taking responsibility for the newborn and will continue to provide support, including government assistance." Coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, Rahim Islam and Kamrun Nahar Eni, stated, "We will continue to stand by the family of our martyred brother and care for them in the future."
