The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has successfully halted the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) from constructing barbed wire fences in violation of international border laws near the Bostabar border in Dhamoirhat upazila, Naogaon. Local residents also joined the BGB in resisting the BSF’s actions. As a result, the BSF personnel withdrew without completing the construction.
A flag meeting has been arranged between the BGB and BSF at the battalion commander level to address the issue. This was confirmed by Colonel Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, commander of the Naogaon Patnitala Battalion (14 BGB). The meeting is set for tomorrow, Friday afternoon, at the zero line near the Bostabar border post.
Colonel Hossain explained that within approximately 600 yards of the Bostabar border, there is no fencing between the two countries. On Wednesday morning, around 9:00 am, BSF personnel and construction workers were observed operating on the Indian side of the border near the zero line without prior coordination with the BGB. They were seen cutting trees and using an excavator to dig. According to international law, no country is permitted to build fences or structures within 150 yards of the zero line, except for agricultural activities. However, the BSF attempted to construct barriers in violation of this regulation. Upon learning of this, BGB personnel intervened, leading the BSF to halt their work and leave the area.
