Barrister Syedul Haque Sumon expressed he was "sorry" to his fellow lawyers following a remand hearing on October 22 in Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court. The police requested a 10-day remand for further investigation, while Sumon's lawyer sought bail, which the state opposed. Ultimately, Magistrate Zakir Hossain granted a 5-day remand. After the ruling, Sumon attempted to speak with prosecutor Omar Farooq Farooqui but was ignored. Addressing the lawyers, Sumon stated, "I’m so sorry, sir." During the hearing, Farooqui accused Sumon of deceit, claiming he falsely told people he was in London while actually hiding in his sister’s home. He criticized Sumon for alleged manipulation and political misconduct, particularly during the anti-discrimination movement, where Sumon was linked to a shooting incident involving plaintiff Hridoy Mia, an assistant cook who was injured and later filed an attempted murder case after the government fell. Sumon was arrested by police on October 21 in Mirpur, and his lawyer subsequently applied to cancel his remand and seek bail.
