Supreme Court lawyer Barrister ASM Shahriar Kabir said it is everyone’s religious duty to ensure the victory of the “scales” symbol. In his words, such a victory would please Allah and enable people to answer for their actions on the Day of Judgment.
He made the remarks on Friday night (January 23) while speaking as the chief guest at an election rally of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the RG-Naogaon School ground in Naogaon municipality.
In his speech, Shahriar Kabir said, “It is the religious responsibility of everyone to make the scales victorious. If you do not vote for the scales, what answer will you give on the Day of Judgment? Can Sheikh Mujib take anyone to heaven? He cannot. Only Allah Almighty can grant heaven. At least, when you go to the grave, you should be able to say that you voted for the scales to establish Allah’s deen.”
He added that those associated with Jamaat-e-Islami are accountable to Allah, expressing a firm commitment to establishing deen and following its path.
Describing voting as an “amanah” (trust), Shahriar Kabir said anyone who receives votes but fails to work for the country is betraying that trust. “The scales are a symbol of justice. We always stand for fairness and honest individuals,” he said, adding that Jamaat-e-Islami–nominated candidates are contesting the election not to enjoy power, but to serve the country as public servants.
Quoting a statement by the Jamaat-e-Islami amir, he said that if anyone from Jamaat betrays the public trust after being elected, strict action will be taken against them—something he claimed no other party leader has said. Referring to Naogaon candidates, he remarked, “Vote for those who speak of establishing deen. If you vote for someone who does not know how to establish deen, you are betraying the trust.”
On political issues, Shahriar Kabir said the BNP of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia is not the same as the current BNP. He also commented that future Bangladesh would not hand over power to smugglers, extortionists, or dishonest individuals. He urged people to resist any attempts at vote rigging, saying no one should steal votes or allow others to do so.
Speaking about India, he said people must stand firm against Indian hegemony. Referring to Muslims being unable to play cricket in India due to their identity, he said those who remain silent on such issues do not deserve votes, calling it an act of disobedience to support them.
Among those present at the rally were Jamaat-e-Islami’s Naogaon-5 (Sadar) constituency candidate ASM Sayem, district Jamaat Nayeb-e-Amir Professor Mohiuddin, Sadar Upazila Jamaat Amir Advocate Abdur Rahim, and other party leaders and activists.
Earlier, Shahriar Kabir and other Jamaat leaders attended a prize distribution and cultural program organized by the Youth Department of Ward No. 8.
