A Bangladeshi national, Shariful Islam (28), was sh*ot by India's Border Security Force (BSF) near the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat district on January 12, 2025. Reports indicate that Shariful was attempting to cross the border illegally when BSF personnel opened fire, leaving him critically injured. He was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The incident has raised concerns about border security and the growing cross-border tensions between India and Bangladesh. In response, the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has filed a formal complaint with Indian authorities, requesting an investigation. Despite efforts by both nations to improve relations, border skirmishes and sh*ootings remain a recurring issue in the region.
