Bangladeshi mountaineer Ikramul Hasan, widely known as Shakil, has been appointed as a Youth Advocate by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to raise awareness about plastic pollution and advocate for sustainable environmental practices. This initiative falls under the "TCCF Plastic Circularity" project, a joint effort undertaken by UNDP in collaboration with the Coca-Cola Foundation.
As part of his advocacy efforts, Ikramul is preparing for an extraordinary journey, where he plans to trek from Cox’s Bazar beach all the way to the summit of Mount Everest. Throughout this ambitious expedition, he aims to spread crucial messages about environmental conservation, with a particular emphasis on reducing the use of single-use plastics and minimizing carbon emissions. His 90-day trek will cover an estimated distance of 1,300 kilometers on foot, taking him from Bangladesh through India and finally to Nepal’s Everest Base Camp. If he successfully completes this challenging expedition, he could potentially secure a place in the Guinness World Records.
Ikramul's expertise in mountaineering is backed by professional training from the prestigious Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in India. Over the years, he has accomplished several remarkable ascents, including summiting peaks such as Kyajo Ri, Draupadi Ka Danda-2, Himlung, and Dolma Kang. In 2023, he gained widespread recognition for completing the Great Himalaya Trail, an extensive 1,700-kilometer trek that spans Nepal’s rugged landscapes from its eastern to western regions.
