In Teknaf, a local man named Mohammad Hanif lost a leg after stepping on a landmine planted by the Arakan Army. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Monday (January 12) near the Hwaikhyang border area in Teknaf. He is a resident of the Lompabil area.
Locals reported that Hanif went to the Bilaisar Island area near the Hwaikhyang border in the morning when the landmine exploded, causing his leg to be severed. He was first taken to the MSF Hospital in Kutupalong, Ukhiya, and later referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, a child named Hojayfa from Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, remains in critical condition after being shot by gunfire from across the Myanmar border on Sunday. The child is admitted to the ICU and has not yet regained consciousness. According to the director of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, a surgery was performed last night, but the bullet could not be removed from the child’s head.
In response to the shooting, locals held a human chain protest on Monday morning. The demonstration took place at Techchi Bridge in Hwaikhyang and was attended by local residents.
