Hafiza Humayra Masud from Bangladesh has secured first place at the International Quran Competition held in Cairo, Egypt. The event was organized by the Indonesian Quran Reciters Association and featured 143 contestants from 12 countries.
The winners were announced on Tuesday (November 11) at a modest ceremony held in the courtyard of Ar-Rawzah Al-Husayniyah in Cairo’s historic Al-Moski district. Sheikh Fawzi Al-Barbari Azhari, a distinguished Imam and Qari of Al-Azhar Mosque, presented the awards to the winners.
In the women’s category, Humayra Masud earned the top position, while Indonesia’s Ayesha Izzat Muslima and Qayrani Nafsul Mutmainnah secured second and third places, respectively. In the men’s category, Nigeria’s Basheer Usman Imam won first place.
This is not Humayra Masud’s first international success. In 2010, she achieved second place at the International Hifzul Quran Competition in Jordan. Later, in 2025, she ranked fifth in the non-Arab category at the 31st International Quran Competition organized by Egypt’s Ministry of Awqaf, where participants from 60 countries took part.
Expressing his joy over his wife’s remarkable achievement, her husband, Maulana Masum Billah Gulzar Azhari, said, “This is undoubtedly a proud moment for Bangladesh. Her victory is not just a recognition of her personal talent but also a testament to Bangladesh’s rich religious culture, recitation heritage, and identity as a nation deeply devoted to the Quran.”
A native of Chandpur, Hafiza Humayra Masud completed her Hifz from Umme Aiman (R.A.) International Girls’ Madrasa in Narayanganj. She is currently studying at the Faculty of Islamic Theology at Egypt’s prestigious Al-Azhar University.
