Bangladesh International Master Fahad Rahman has become the undefeated champion at an international chess tournament held in Istanbul, Turkey, while also securing his much-awaited second Grandmaster (GM) norm.
Fahad topped the 9-round tournament with 7 points, clinching the title. To achieve the GM norm, he needed 1.5 points from the final two rounds. Under pressure, he defeated an Iranian International Master in the eighth round and drew against a Georgian player in the final round to reach his target.
Throughout the tournament, Fahad faced three Grandmasters and defeated two of them. With just one more norm required, he is now one step closer to becoming Bangladesh’s next Grandmaster.
