The western monsoon is expected to withdraw from the country within the next few days, marking the end of this year’s unusually long monsoon season. Meanwhile, the glimmering dew on morning grass hints that winter is approaching. According to long-term forecasts, Bangladesh may experience several cold waves over the next three months.
Earlier in October, the Meteorological Department issued a three-month weather outlook predicting higher-than-normal rainfall. It also mentioned the possible formation of 3–6 low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal, with 1–2 potentially intensifying into depressions or cyclones.
Additionally, the southwest monsoon is likely to retreat from Bangladesh in phases during the first half of October. During this period, the country may experience 3–6 days of moderate to severe thunderstorms with lightning and 4–8 days of light to moderate thunderstorms.
Day and night temperatures are expected to gradually fall but may still remain slightly above normal. From late night to morning, moderate to dense fog may form in parts of the country and over river basins, while light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere. Moreover, 1–2 mild cold waves could sweep across northern, northwestern, and central regions in December.
