A permanent embankment construction project is currently underway to safeguard the 25-kilometer area of Chapainawabganj that is vulnerable to river erosion. This area lies downstream along the Padma River, which enters Bangladesh from India. The initial estimated cost for this ambitious project stands at around 1,700 crore taka.
Previously, embankments have been built in various parts along the Padma River to prevent erosion. However, the remaining 25-kilometer stretch in Chapainawabganj had yet to receive such protection. To address this, a new project has been initiated specifically targeting erosion control in this section, with the aim of building a permanent embankment. A feasibility study for the project has already been carried out, paving the way for its implementation.
