Bangladesh has been recognized as the world’s 4th most nature-connected country, according to a global study published in the journal Ambio. The survey, which included 57,000 participants from 61 nations, examined how social, economic, and cultural influences shape people’s bond with nature. Nepal topped the list, followed by Iran, South Africa, and Bangladesh, while industrialized nations such as Britain, Canada, Japan, and Spain ranked lower.
The research, led by Professor Miles Richardson of the University of Derby, revealed that societies rooted in spiritual or religious values tend to maintain a stronger connection with nature. In contrast, countries prioritizing economic growth, urbanization, and digital lifestyles showed weaker ties. The study emphasized that fostering spiritual and cultural appreciation for nature could be crucial in rebuilding humanity’s relationship with the environment—an essential factor for both wellbeing and global biodiversity.
