According to data released by the US-based research organization World Population Review, Bangladesh ranks 150th among 198 countries with an average IQ of 74.33, placing it near the lower end of the global list. IQ, or Intelligence Quotient, reflects human cognitive abilities such as analytical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making speed, and answering reasoning-based questions. Although several approaches exist to assess IQ, there is no single universally accepted method.
The rankings are derived from multiple widely referenced studies conducted under the guidance of British psychologist Richard Lynn. The latest 2022 index includes country-wise average IQ scores, the Intelligence Capital Index (ICI), and outcomes from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Publication of the report has sparked worldwide discussion.
Japan tops the ranking with an average IQ of 106.48, followed by Taiwan (106.47) and Singapore (105.89). East and Southeast Asian nations dominate the top six positions, including Hong Kong, China, and South Korea. Experts generally consider IQ scores between 85 and 115 as average, 130 or above as high intelligence, and over 160 as exceptional or “genius.”
