Senior Supreme Court lawyer and Jamaat leader Mohammad Shishir Monir has announced that elected Members of Parliament from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will not accept tax-free vehicles or government residential plots.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Monday (16 February), Monir said the party’s MPs would refrain from receiving these state benefits in line with an earlier commitment.
“As previously declared, our honorable MPs will not take tax-free cars or government plots, Insha’Allah,” he wrote.
The stance reflects a pre-election pledge made by the party’s Ameer, Shafiqur Rahman. On 7 November 2025, speaking at a civic gathering organized by the party’s Sylhet city unit at a convention hall in Sylhet, he vowed that if any Jamaat candidate was elected to Parliament, they would decline government plots and tax-exempt vehicles.
