The United States has remained Bangladesh’s largest export market, with apparel shipments showing strong year-on-year growth, according to data from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
From January to October last year, Bangladesh exported garments worth $7.08 billion to the U.S., marking a more than 15 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Industry experts attribute this rise largely to advance orders from American buyers. Local manufacturers said U.S. importers placed bulk orders ahead of potential reciprocal tariffs proposed under the Trump administration, seeking to avoid higher duties later.
Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector, the backbone of the country’s export economy, benefited from this early stocking strategy, helping mitigate challenges from global inflation and shifting trade policies. Exporters say the strong performance highlights Bangladesh’s competitiveness in price, production capacity, and supply reliability, as U.S. retailers look for alternatives amid evolving global trade dynamics.
Analysts, however, warn that future export growth will depend on the trajectory of U.S. trade policies and whether the proposed tariffs are enforced. Despite these uncertainties, the latest figures confirm Bangladesh’s continued strength in the U.S. apparel market.
