The interim government of Bangladesh has officially banned the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), labeling it a terrorist organization under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2009. The Ministry of Public Administration issued the ban, citing BCL's involvement in various criminal activities, including murder, torture, rape, and corruption over the past 15 years, especially during dictatorial rule. The organization has also been accused of violent attacks on students during the anti-discrimination movement since July 2024, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. Despite the ban, BCL president Saddam Hossain dismissed the decision, claiming the interim government lacks legitimacy and is using the ban to shift blame for their own actions. The government has sufficient evidence of BCL's continued involvement in conspiracies and terrorist activities even after the fall of the Awami League on August 5, 2024.
