A bilateral meeting at the foreign minister level between Bangladesh and Pakistan took place on Sunday, August 24, around 9:45 am at a hotel in the capital. During the discussions, the two countries signed one formal agreement and five memorandums of understanding (MoUs).
The agreement and MoUs cover several key areas, including visa exemptions for holders of official and diplomatic passports from both countries and the establishment of a joint working group on trade, among other collaborative initiatives.
From the Bangladesh side, the meeting was attended by Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain, Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Pakistani delegation was led by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
The discussions encompassed multiple important issues, such as Pakistan’s formal apology for the 1971 genocide, the division of assets that were taken to West Pakistan prior to the Liberation War, and various topics related to trade, investment, and agriculture. Both nations expressed a strong interest in further strengthening their bilateral relations through cooperation in these areas.
