Battery-powered rickshaw drivers have blocked the road in Badda, Dhaka, demanding the ban of lithium battery-operated rickshaws. They have warned that they will continue their protest if these rickshaws are allowed to operate.
On Monday, January 19, from around 9:30 a.m., the drivers staged the protest in front of Fuji Tower, blocking traffic completely on the Kuril–Rampura Road, causing significant disruption for commuters.
Confirming the incident, Badda Police Inspector (Operations) Azharul Islam said the rickshaw drivers had blocked the road over a single demand, and the obstruction has completely halted traffic in the area. With Metro Rail construction already underway in the region, the protest has further intensified congestion, causing major inconvenience. He added that police are present at the scene and are trying to convince the drivers to clear the road.
