Mahfuj Alam, adviser to the interim government, declared that the Awami League would be barred from participating in future elections, labeling them as “fascists and anti-Bangladesh.” Speaking at Hajiganj Bazar in Chandpur on Saturday, during a gathering with students and locals, he stated, “The elections will only involve pro-Bangladesh groups.”
Alam stressed the importance of reforms prior to the elections, adding, “Our government’s focus is on prosecuting killers, addressing cases of abduction, murder, and rape, implementing reforms, and ensuring a fair election with participation from all pro-Bangladesh political parties. This has not been accomplished in the last 16 years.” He also mentioned that political groups with Bangladesh’s interests at heart, such as BNP-Jamaat and others, would form the government through a fair and inclusive electoral process.
