Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, expressed that his party is open to collaborating with the BNP if necessary to restore democracy. Speaking on the UK-based Channel S's 'Opinion' program, he said, "I agree with many of the statements made by BNP Acting Chairman Mr. Tariq Rahman and BNP Secretary General Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir." In his first official address following the government's recent transition, Dr. Mahmud acknowledged, "It was a political shortcoming on our part not to include the BNP in the 2014 and 2024 elections. Although they attempted to hinder us, it remains our failure." Commenting on the current silence from the Awami League, he explained, "We are purposefully silent to avoid blame." To party leaders and members, he added, "To those suffering from persecution today, I say this darkness will pass, and a fair, stable environment will soon return to the country."
