Leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have claimed that members of the ousted Awami League, following mass protests in Bangladesh, are preparing for a rally in Agartala, India. There is speculation that Awami League President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently residing in India, may participate in the rally. Abdul Hannan Masud, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, stated, "From that rally, they (the Awami League) may announce an expatriate government, and Sheikh Hasina might deliver a speech herself." However, central leaders of the Awami League have rejected this claim. The party's Joint General Secretary, A F M Bahauddin Nasim, told the BBC, "These are all baseless, false, and propaganda." He accused, "They are spreading this propaganda to cover up their own failures. But they won’t be able to get away with it. The interim illegal government will have to take responsibility for its failures." Nasim further added, "Considering the level of torture, persecution, and cases against our leaders and activists, if someone seeks refuge outside the country to save their life, can they not do so?" He acknowledged that many leaders and activists have already left the country, and many more are trying to leave.
