Bida Chairman Ashik Chowdhury has announced plans to establish a 400-acre Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in Anwara, Chattogram, calling it a potential game changer for Bangladesh’s economy. The FTZ aims to attract foreign investors with minimal bureaucracy, offering export opportunities and employment for locals. A national committee is assessing the site and holding talks with international FTZ operators. Meanwhile, AP Moller-Maersk is expected to invest $800 million in the Laldia container terminal, which will be the country’s first BOT port project under a PPP model. Additionally, PSI Singapore and DP World will each invest over $1 billion in separate terminals at the Bay Terminal, a project expected to create 25,000 jobs and increase annual container handling capacity significantly by 2030.
