Former Home Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has been appointed to lead the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Ministry, while Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee has been given charge of the Home Ministry in a cabinet reshuffle.
The changes were decided at a high-level government review meeting held Thursday afternoon, according to policy-making sources.
Salahuddin will replace BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as LGRD minister. Meanwhile, Anee, who previously headed the Water Resources Ministry, has been shifted to the Home Ministry.
The reshuffle comes after the BNP nominated Mirza Fakhrul as its candidate for the country’s 23rd presidential election. Following the nomination, he is expected to relinquish his parliamentary and administrative responsibilities.
